At the Shuharikan we focus on cooperation - not competition
At each session, students are provided with a lesson plan outlining the techniques, activities, and thoughts of the day. Typically a quote or poem will be introduced to tie together notions of thinking, acting, and play as associated dimensions of learning. Some Japanese terminology is taught too. Frequently there will be assignments to work on with parents at home during the week. The lesson plan here is typical. The pace is brisk but appropriate for the ability levels of the students in the class. No prior Aikido or martial arts experience is necessary to be able to keep up with the class. |

The instructors teach with a view toward improving the students’ self-confidence and self-esteem as well as their physical capabilities. After a few weeks in class, the kids gain an increased sense of balance, strength, and flexibility. Parents are encouraged to attend and participate! |
