The Shuharikan Kids' Class focuses on cooperation rather than competition. Students learn Aikido stances, rolls, holds, and throws. Japanese terms for moves are taught too. The pace is brisk but appropriate for the ability levels of the students in the class. No prior Aikido or martial arts experience is necessary to be able to keep up with the class.

"Aikido helps our kids become confident in their physical abilities and is an activity that they share with their dad." - Parent

This QuickTime video (41.2MB) shows what a typical class day is like.

The instructors teach with a view toward improving the students’ self-confidence and self-esteem as well as their physical capabilities. After a few weeks in class, the kids gain an increased sense of balance, strength, and flexibility.

Parents are encouraged to attend and participate!
